UMARU KALEFU
Umaru’s story:
"Someone stole something from our home and my parents thought that it was me. I wasn’t the one but they thought it was me. They wanted to beat me. I did not know what to do so I decided to go to Kampala. I had no money so all I could do was to steal something to get me to Kampala. I did not know what else I could do.
Now, I don't want to go back home. I will never steal again. I know that it is wrong.
I would like to be a musician. I like music very much."
Umaru’s dream: Wants to be a musician.
AT4A perspective:
So much of one’s ability to do something can simply be connected to having access to resources. Consider a refugee camp full of tens of thousands of people, or a school in North America with thousands of kids, or any one person and the gifts they were uniquely created with. How much potential exists in each example?
At AT4A, we want to see that potential realized. We want to help Umaru have his dream of becoming a musician, a reality. Making that happen could be as simple as providing him with some instruments. The impact of those instruments could be as life changing as him having the tools, the resources, to help him earn a living so he can one day provide for himself.
We’re passionate about sustaining lives through sustainable initiates.
