SWALIK
Swalik’s story:
"After the death of my mom, they brought me to my aunt to live. My auntie did not want me, and wanted to take me to my grandmother. My grandmother did not want me either.
I felt so bad because I could feel that they had abandoned me, and I was unwanted in the family. This forced me to go to streets to live there. It was a terrible place to live. I found Patrick (founder and Director of RUHU orphanage,) and now I can visit the safe house. I want a place to live and I want to go to school.”
Swalik’s dream:
Swalik wants to become a teacher, and help children.
AT4A perspective:
To date, RUHU orphanage has operated out of rented facilities. The space is limited, and with 35 children, is at capacity. Also, last month RUHU was evicted from their facility, and are currently living in temporary accommodations.
At AT4A, we are hoping to partner with RUHU orphanage to help them purchase permanent land. The 4 acre property we are looking at would house 100 children (so there would be room for Swalik,) and these kids, who have already been moved around from house to house, would finally have a permanent place to live.
